Objective:
The student will draw a picture and write one paragraph to explain relationships among themes, ideas and characters within No More! Stories and Songs of Slave Resistance to create a deeper understanding by drawing parallels within the time and culture of slavery throughout the Civil War.

Evaluation:The students will be able to draw a picture of an appropriate theme seen within the relationships between the characters in No More! Stories and Songs of Slave Resistance. By writing a paragraph describing their drawing, the student will explain how the theme relates to the characters or ideas within the stories presented in No More! Stories and Songs of Slave Resistance. If the student draws and writes about either freedom or struggle, the student has grasped the major ideas. By drawing and writing about a theme related to the story, the student has met the objective for this lesson. |
Vocabulary
R.WS.04.07 in context, determine the meaning of words and phrases including similes, metaphors, content vocabulary, and literary terms using strategies and resources including context clues, semantic feature analysis, and a thesaurus.
Objective:
The student will complete a worksheet in order to display his/her ability to determine the meaning of content vocabulary by using context clues and semantic feature analysis

Evaluation:
After reading the story No More! Stories and Songs of Slave Resistance and completing the worksheet, the students will again discuss the meaning of the new vocabulary words they encountered while reading No More! Stories and Songs of Slave Resistance. If the students are able to determine the true definition of the word through the clues in the reading, they have reached the objective of the lesson. The worksheet will serve as a base for the students to organize their thoughts, and have the opportunity to use the strategies to help them determine the meaning. If they are able to correctly find the meaning of the content vocabulary words, the students have reached the objective. |
