Classroom structure
On the first day of school, as a class we will go through many of the procedures we will use throughout the entire school year. Through these procedures we will develop a routine that will outline the structure of our fifth grade classroom. These procedures are essential to the organization both myself and the students.
Example:
When students arrive at school in the morning, they will always have sacred writing time. This time is uninterrupted, and they can work on any piece of writing they desire. Students will move their clothespin along the writing pencil, so that I know which point each student is currently in the writing process.
Expectations
Students will always do their best work. Because each student has individual needs and abilities, this will vary from student to student. But, I expect each student to do their best work at all times.
Students will be respectful of themselves, their classmates and the environment of the room. Since we will put a great deal of effort into creating a positive classroom environment, the students need to respect that.
Students will follow procedures that have been given. These procedures are created to make the learning environment safe and smooth for students. Procedures for fire drills and lock-down drills are set for student safety and need to be followed. Our fifth grade procedures are in place to keep all classes on the same page. And, within our classroom, procedures are set to enhance students’ learning.
Students will be held accountable for their actions. Since the only behavior we can truly control is our own, students must take responsibility for their behavior.

Behavior PlanAs mentioned in the welcome letter, our class will be utilizing class dojo. Students will be awarded with points for positive behavior and deducted points for negative behavior. As a class, we will determine group rewards for the students if they collectively reach a certain number of points. The goal being that students will be accountable for their actions, and keep in mind the ways in which they can effect the whole.

Consequences
If a student does violate a rule or drastically misbehave, the student will be asked to be involved with making a consequence. There are several guidelines to follow in order to make a logical consequence:
The consequence must be related to the misbehavior.
The consequence must be reasonable; it should be as severe as the violation.
The consequence must be respectful.
The consequence must be enforced within a relatively short timeline following the misbehavior.
